Amsterdam accommodation
Houseboats in Amsterdam can be ideal for a group
If you’ve yet to visit Amsterdam, there are a few things about booking accommodation here that you may not be aware of. First off, Amsterdam hotels tend to have really small rooms, especially on the budget end of things. If you have traveled elsewhere in Europe before this won’t be nearly as surprising, but for those who mostly have experience in North America, it can be shocking when you first open the door to your budget hotel room to find the whole thing only two to three times the size of a bed that also seems smaller than you expected.
If you are shopping for a 3-star or above hotel you’ll likely be choosing between places that were built more recently, and the rooms will be a bit larger, although you’ll be paying a minimum of €100 or so, and the area will still be too cramped for socializing among more than the people who are staying in the room.

Where to book your Amsterdam hostel
Amsterdam is one of the major centers for hostels in Europe so people are always wondering which is the best site or place to book their bed in the city. This isn’t an easy question to answer since there are many major sites and they pretty much all book every hostel in Amsterdam, and all at the same price.
Some have better maps than others and some have mini travel guides built into their description pages so you’ll have some good advice on which hostels are better for people who don’t know the city …

Choosing where to stay in Amsterdam
Where should I stay in Amsterdam? Of course that’s one of the most frequently asked questions from people who are planning their first trip to this fabulous city. I’ve just finished a major overhaul to the hotel and hostel sections of Amsterdamlogue and now I think they are much more helpful. I’ve added quite a bit of information and also added recommendations for both hotels and hostels in each of the major neighborhoods.
Here’s a quick guide on the choices you face that will get you to an answer quickly:

Vote for your favorite hostel in Amsterdam!
You know how it is, all the descriptions of the hostels and hotels on the internet look similar and make all the places sound awesome. And then you check in to the one you booked only to find that it’s nowhere near the city center, or right next to the deafening commuter train tracks. Or maybe the staff is so rude that it takes all your strength not to punch them in the face.
