Hotel Nadia, Amsterdam

This 2-star hotel in Amsterdam gets very high marks from previous guests so it tends to fill up sooner than many similar hotels. If you are used to American hotel rooms the rooms here might seem very small (especially the singles), but they are typical for traditional and budget hotels in Amsterdam. After a 2005 facelift everything at the Hotel Nadia is in good shape and the service is friendly. They have 45 rooms, many of which have a gorgeous canal view. All rooms have en-suite shower and toilet, cable TV, a mini-fridge, a safe, coffee & tea, and wireless internet.

The Hotel Nadia overlooks the Keizersgracht canal in a mostly residential neighborhood that is actually very convenient to many things for visitors. It’s only about a 5-minute walk behind Dam Square, which is the symbolic center of Amsterdam and also the crossroads of the main shopping area, but not really a big center for nightlife or restaurants. The Anne Frank House is also a short walk away, and perhaps the nicest feature of this location is it’s extremely close to the lovely and artsy Jordaan residential neighborhood.
There is no shortage of small bars and restaurants in the area of the Nadia Hotel, and most of them cater to locals rather than tourists, which could be nice for some people and a small problem for others. Unlike some other cities, the tourist clusters of bars, restaurants, and nightclubs in Amsterdam are very worthwhile. There are a few of Amsterdam’s infamous coffee shops around as well, but if you’d rather be close to the nightlife and restaurant areas of Rembrandtplein or Leidseplein then this location will feel a bit remote.

Prices

The Hotel Nadia has a low season of most of January and February, a high season of July and August, and a mid season of the rest of the year. Prices are also €5-10 higher on Friday and Saturday night than the rest of the week. Prices for larger rooms or rooms with balconies and views are higher than those without.
