Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, but most government work actually occurs in The Hague (Den Haag), which is about 60 kilometers southwest of Amsterdam.
\nConsulates
\nItaly, Switzerland, United States and the United Kingdom all maintain consulates in Amsterdam, which provide most all services for passport holders of those countries. Dutch Nationals will still have to go to the main embassies in Den Haag for visa information and other emigration-related topics.
\nThe Italian Consulate is just off Rembrandtplein, and the other three are near Museumplein in the south of the city. The cost is €9.60 each way for an adult.
