Banks Mansion Hotel, Amsterdam

One of the best-reviewed hotels in all of Amsterdam, the Banks Mansion is part of the Carlton Hotel Collection that has most of their hotels in the Netherlands, but also properties in Brussels and the UK. Many of the hotel’s 51 rooms overlook the canal, and all of them are luxuriously appointed with air conditioning, wireless internet, DVD players, and stereos. The hotel isn’t one of the cheapest in Amsterdam, but you do get a lot for your money including free drinks in the minibar each night. The rooms are also larger than most European hotel rooms, and they’ll remind many people of an upscale hotel in the United States. It’s officially a 3-star property, but that is based on rigid criteria so 4 stars is really more realistic for comparing it to other places.

The location of the Banks Mansion is nearly ideal as it’s both extremely central and quiet. The hotel overlooks the Herengracht, which is one of the more picturesque canals in Amsterdam. It’s two short blocks from the heart of the Rembrandtplein square, which is where you’ll find most of the city’s more glamorous nightlife, but the square is also surrounded by bars, restaurants, and even a few of Amsterdam’s infamous coffeeshops.
It’s also a very short walk to the Waterlooplein flea market and Dam Square, and also about a 10-minute walk from either the Leidseplein square restaurant neighborhood or the Red Light District in the other direction. Museum Square and Vondelpark are just near Leidseplein, so all the major attractions are within an easy reach. You could walk from the main train station to the Banks Mansion in about 15 minutes, but there are several tram lines and a taxi stand very nearby so transportation will be the least of your worries.

Prices

Rates start just under €200 per night in the low season for a Deluxe Room, and €20 more for a similar room with a canal view. During high season prices start around €270 per night and a canal view is €30 extra. There are also suites available by request.

Cheaper rooms at the Banks Mansion

Unlike many Amsterdam hotels, the Banks Mansion varies room price based on availability so if you book well in advance during high season you can often get a price much closer to the low season rate. The hotel also occasionally has special package prices on their official website. They aren’t always available, but when they are in affect you can often get a really good deal on one of the best hotels in the city.
